Antique Gildea & Walker Melbourne Tureen Aesthetic Movement 1881 & Ladle

Description

This listing is for a fantastic Gildea & Walker Melbourne covered tureen from the Aesthetic Period circa 1881. It is decorated with a chocolate brown scene of a fancy rooster with the sun on the horizon in the background, swallows flying about, a boat sailing,bamboo branches with leaves, cherry blossoms on branches along with other geometric patterns and floral devices all in the Aesthetic period design. This pattern truly creates a fantasy world. The tureen measures 13" long from handle to handle and is 7 1/4" wide. There are no chips or cracks. There is overall glaze crazing as one would expect from the age of the piece and some brown toning to the inside. Marked on the verso with the Melbourne G & W Late Mayers in brown along with an English registry mark. The tureen comes with a Reed & Barton silver plate ladle. The ladle measures 14" long.
