ANTIQUE OSTBY BARTON OB 14K YELLOW GOLD RING MOUNT W RARE MALTESE CROSS MARK

Description

For your consideration - a rare Ostby Barton ring setting or mounting:
*Very fine early 1900's solitaire stone ring mount executed in solid 14k yellow gold
*Suitable for a single stone - faceted or cabochon I would imagine....would be precious with a fine diamond
*Dainty and sweet - trendy minimalistic and very suitable for wearing solo or stacking up
*This particular ring had to have been made prior to 1912 due to the fact that he perished on the Titanic in April of that year
*OB jewelry is treasured and collected for it's beautiful craftsmanship as well as historical significance.  Their jewelry is hard to find, especially in good condition, and is escalating in both popularity and value.
*Some
history
- if you aren't familiar.......Mr. Ostby studied at the Royal School of art and became a successful jeweler / goldsmith in his hometown of Oslo, Norway.  After emigrating to America in 1869, he settled in Providence, Rhode Island and worked for several jewelry firms there.  In 1879 the formed a partnership with Nathan B. Barton and created their business of Ostby & Barton.  Engelhart was the founder and president of O & B Company, director of a bank and a trustee at another in Providence, named in a 1894 trade publication (The Jewelers Circular and Horological Review) as one of the directors of The Jewelers Board of Trade, and was also known for his charitable acts.  He unfortunately perished on the RMS Titanic in April of 1912.

= It is deep stamped on the inside of the band - O.B . 14 K in
septette
rectangular shapes followed by a faint / partial Maltese cross mark which was the
personal stamp of E. Ostby and it denotes that the piece was handcrafted by the famous Engelhart Ostby himself.  This is a very rare and highly collectible piece
Size
= It is a US ring size 7.25 - I believe it could be sized either way - but of course take care to preserve the marks, especially the iron / Maltese cross
Weight
= Weighs 1.1 grams on my scale
Measurements
= Prong spread is roughly about 4 mm right now.
Band is about 2 mm on the should
ers and tapers to 1 mm in back
Condition
= Fantastic vintage condition - no damage or quirks to mention at all.
