mid 1800s Fine Old Gold Filled Citrine Penguin Cormorant Bird Crest Fob Seal

Description

Presented is a fine old gold filled citrine seal fob. This piece dates to the
mid 1800s and is likely American, though it could also be English. The fob is
set with a large citrine, fabulously hand carved with an interesting penguin, or
maybe a cormorant. The setting is heavy and ornate, with a rich foliate
design.
The fob is in great overall condition. There is a tiny chip to the citrine,
near one corner, visible in the upper left of the second photo, which is very
hard to notice without close, careful inspection under good lighting. The gold
plating is in good shape. Otherwise there are no breaks and no repairs.
The fob is about 1 1/4 inches long. The top of the fob is about 3/4 of an
inch by 5/8 of an inch.
This piece weighs 12.7 grams.
