    Vintage photograph of Charlie Chaplin whispering into the ear of his wife, Paulette Goddard, photographed by Charles Rhodes, circa 1940. With a credit for Rhodes stamped on the verso, as well as "Fawcett Publications" and "R R Stuart Collection" in Hollywood.
    Goddard and Chaplin met in 1932, aboard a weekend cruise on United Artists president, Joe Schenck's yacht. Shortly after meeting, Chaplin bought her out of her contract with Hal Roach, and hired her as the female lead in his final silent film "Modern Times" in 1936. They would marry shortly thereafter. Goddard also was the female lead in Chaplin's first talkie "The Great Dictator" (1940). They divorced in 1942.
