This exquisite and superbly crafted sterling silver replica is of the "Santa Maria", the caravel flagship that Christopher Columbus sailed on his first voyage to the New World in 1492.
Columbus is believed to have landed on the island of San Salvador, which is now Watling Island in the Bahamas.
Replica Basics
The replica is:
6 1/2" (16.5 cm) tall when including the pedestal
(8" (20.3 cm) tall including the wood base)
7 1/4" long (18.5 cm) and
3 1/2" (9 cm) at its widest.
The weight is 330 grams, including the wood base
(there is no way to separate the replica from the base).
Condition
The condition of the replica is excellent.
There is a beautiful patina all over the silver that only comes with age (in this case, 27 years).
You can also see a few light tarnish spots that lend a little character to the piece!

Provenance
There is no maker's mark on this replica.
There is the raised mark of the Spanish Quincentennial logo (the Spanish royal crown over the number 500) on the last sail, so it can be assumed the piece was made in Spain.
The replica is hallmarked with '925', along with 'M1' or the city of Madrid, Spain.
There is also the British leopard head assay mark, representing the city of London.
All three of these hallmarks were struck on the vessel's rudder.
So, it appears this stunning silver replica was made in Madrid, then imported to London, probably around 1991- 1992 (the 500th anniversary).
Replica Details
When you look at the ship up close, you can see all the fine detail work that went into this piece.
There are hatch gratings, cannon ports, doorways, and windows.
You can see the detailed wood grain texture applied all over the hull of the boat.
There is also nice craftsmanship done on the sails.
The Stand
The silver replica is permanently mounted on a nice wooden base.
There is no mark of any kind on the wooden base.
